Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers Make the Difference!

Volunteers are an essential component of our services. We reach over 15,000 students and other community members with prevention programs and support over 300 families facing cancer every year. Volunteers of all ages are needed.

How do Volunteers support families facing cancer?

Staff members match Patient Support Volunteers to help meet client needs. Some of the more common activities are:

  • Visiting patients at home or the hospital
  • Driving patients to medical appointments
  • Providing companionship
  • Running errands
  • Assisting with occasional household chores
  • Providing respite for family members

Patient Support Volunteers

Patient Support Volunteers are asked to complete an application form. A personal interview is held with our Client Services Coordinator to screen, train, and place volunteers. The length of training varies depending on each volunteer's background. Cancer Services staff trains and supervises individuals as Clerical Helpers.

PALS or Partners As Life Survivors
PALS are successfully treated cancer patients who support newly, similarly diagnosed patients.  They may meet over the phone or in person to discuss their experiences.

What other ways do volunteers assist Cancer Services?

  • Display attendant at special events
  • Tobacco control advocate
  • Distribution of pamphlets and flyers in the community
  • Office Assistance
  • Board member
  • Fundraising committee
  • Special events project assistant
  • Public relations assistant

We are very flexible and work with your schedule. We appreciate any time you choose to donate to the families we serve.
